Malta – In the Middle of History & the Mediterranean

Half-Board

Christianity in Malta is traditionally believed to have been introduced by St. Paul the Apostle, who was shipwrecked on the island around 60 AD while en route to Rome as a prisoner. The site of the shipwreck is commemorated by St. Paul’s Bay and St. Paul’s Grotto in Rabat, where he is said to have stayed and preached during his time on the island.

UNESCO & Christian Art The islands hold numerous chapels, cathedrals, and religious sites adorned with Renaissance and Baroque art, many of which are part of UNESCO heritage zones. The catacombs in Rabat, such as St. Agatha’s and St. Paul’s, are early Christian burial sites and some of the oldest tangible testimonies of Christianity in Malta.

Despite its compact size, Malta is rich in natural beauty. Its rugged coastline, azure waters, and limestone cliffs offer breathtaking views and unique ecosystems. Natural arches and sea-carved caves, such as the Blue Grotto, are iconic landmarks. Peaceful Countryside & Rolling Hills The rural inland areas feature terraced fields, olive groves, carob trees, and stone farmhouses. Spring transforms Malta into a carpet of wildflowers and green hills, especially in Gozo. Għar Dalam cave contains bones of ancient animals and signs of early human life.
